A stringer is an automated device that utilizes a mechanical transmission mechanism to transport solar cells, performing the welding process on a heated baseplate through methods such as high-temperature airflow via hot-air ducts or infrared radiation.

It is primarily employed in the manufacturing stage of photovoltaic (PV) modules. As a core piece of equipment within the PV module encapsulation production line, its value exceeds 20 million RMB per GW of capacity, accounting for over 30% of the total value of module manufacturing equipment.

This device automates the entire operational workflow—including feeding, ribbon handling, cell preheating, welding, and quality inspection. The welding process encompasses steps such as positioning correction, ribbon tensioning and cutting, and grid-line alignment, achieving a welding precision of ±0.5 mm. Based on the welding method employed, stringers can be categorized into infrared, laser, and resistance welding types; the upstream segment of the industry chain comprises metal materials, mechanical transmission components, and electrical control systems. Driven by the iterative evolution of multi-busbar (MBB) technology, the 0BB process is gaining rapid traction due to its advantages in reducing silver paste consumption and boosting power output, making it well-suited for compatibility with emerging cell technologies such as TOPCon.

Autowell, a leading domestic enterprise in this sector, commands a global market share exceeding 70%, with its large-format, ultra-high-speed multi-busbar stringers boasting a throughput capacity of up to 7,200 cells per hour. In 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)—in conjunction with six other government departments—designated large-format, multi-busbar module stringers as a key priority area for the modernization and upgrading of industrial equipment.
